Dr. Gary Botstein hails from Brooklyn, New York which he left in 1971 for Harvard Medical School. He stayed in Boston for his internal medicine internship and residency at the Beth Israel Hospital and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina for his rheumatology fellowship. He stayed on with the faculty at MUSC in the departments of both Rheumatology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for a year and then migrated to Atlanta in 1981 where he joined Dr. Hugh Spruell in the private practice of Rheumatology in Decatur. He has published several articles in peer reviewed journals. He was a Clinical Associate Professor at Emory University School of Medicine for over a decade and taught rheumatology at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center for 13 years. He retired from the practice of Rheumatology in March of 2021.

He was the former director of the Arthritis Care Center at Dekalb Medical Center, a Fellow in the American College of Physicians, a Founding Member of the American College of Rheumatology, a past president of the Georgia Society of Rheumatology, a past president of the Dekalb Medical Society. He has won the Julius McCurdy citizenship award for his role in the formation of the Physician’s Care Clinic operating in Dekalb County since 1992. He is the recipient of the Community Service Award of the Medical Association of Georgia for 2010. He has been listed as a “Top Doc” in rheumatology in Atlanta Magazine for many years.

He is married to Dr. Stephanie Sansom and has 3 children, Danielle, Jonathan and Natalie.
